    CELEBRATING ONE MORE WAVE

We were thrilled to attend a fundraiser for our client on Veteran’s Day. The event was designed to raise money for One More Wave’s mission – to provide custom surfboards for injured veterans.

The organization premiered a short film at Bird’s Surf Shed in San Diego. The video helps tell the story of One More Wave through the eyes of an injured vet that they served. We collaborated on the film with the Emmy award-winning team of Tim Mantoani and Chris Park.

We were humbled to play a small role in this important mission, and we take our hat’s off to founder Alex West and the other amazing volunteers who serve the men and women of our military.

Check out the film below and read more about One More Wave here.

    MIT: 50 SMARTEST COMPANIES

Our client, Illumina, was recently named by the MIT Technology Review as one of the 50 smartest companies of 2016. Finishing just ahead of companies like Tesla Motors, Facebook, and Microsoft. To see the rest of the companies on the list, check out the MIT site.

The world’s largest DNA-sequencing company hopes to expand its technology’s role in diagnosing illness. This year it formed a new company to develop blood tests that cost $1,000 or less and can detect many types of cancer before symptoms arise, greatly improving the chances of survival. The spinoff, called Grail, is being headed by Jeff Huber, a former senior Google executive who lost his wife to colon cancer. The testing concept, sometimes called a “liquid biopsy,” uses Illumina’s high-speed sequencing machines to scour a person’s blood for fragments of DNA released by cancer cells.

At LESS+MORE, we are thrilled to continue our partnership with the growing company. We recently partnered with them and created a printed piece for employees and candidates to showcase the unique culture at Illumina. In addition to design, we commissioned photo shoots in three cities to convey an authentic portrait of daily life at the company. Check out some project highlights from our recent work with Illumina.

  • HISTORICALLY MODERN

    HISTORICALLY MODERN

The Nolen is Downtown San Diego’s brand new rooftop cocktail lounge atop the Courtyard Marriott Hotel. It recently had it’s grand opening and the “buzz” is continuing to grow stronger.

We worked alongside Azul Hospitality Group and Blue Motif Architecture to design the brand identity around the name. This reference to John Nolen, a city planner for San Diego in the 1920’s, gave us a wealth of historical insights and ways to connect the brand in a subtle but impressionable way. The logo for example, utilizes a plumb bob, which was a typical tool used in surveying.
